| Since the begining of our inner most consciousness
it has been neccesary for us to turn within to have a direct
experience of ourselves. We attain the direct experience of
our inner consciousness, the Self through meditation. It is
an inner world of profound serenity and deep peace, of stillness,
equanimity, and unshakeable love.
The Self must be known and enjoyed directly, and for this
we meditate. Meditation occurs when our awareness which normally
flows though the senses, begins to flow toward the source,
the Self.
It is often said that meditation is not something we do,
but rather a state for which we prepare ourselves. Just as
you brush your teeth, roll down the covers, and get into bed
to prepare for sleep, and then sleep comes of its own accord,
in the same way to prepare for meditation you first practice
certain techniques, then meditation happens.
All we need to do is keep putting ourselves in the correct
inner and outer posture. As we take up the practice of meditation,
a new world opens inside. No one can predict exactly what
will happen as it unfolds, since everyone's journey is unique.
What we can be sure of is that our own inner awareness will
begin to reveal what the impediments to our meditation are,
and how to deal with them.
We only need to begin.
