Auriga, the charioteer, shines on northern winter evenings. Its brightest star, Capella, glows golden-yellow, though ancient astronomers described it as red. The tracks include Mahasim and Hassaleh.

Notes from Charlie: Recorded at La Briche, a couple of hours west of Paris, on a Pleyel piano made around 1890. The music grew out of that place and that instrument.

Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music.

Creativity is infinite.
