Corona Australis, the southern crown, is a small arc of six main stars, at its highest at midnight around the end of June. Its brightest, Meridiana, spins so fast it turns once in about 14 hours.
Notes from Charlie: The Southern Crown. Not, I promise, a Corona in Australia. This came as the studio was being packed up and Hildegarde, my Bösendorfer Imperial 290, was about to be rolled out the door for repairs and a well-earned break from me.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music.
Creativity is infinite.
