Eridanus, the river, winds across the southern sky as the sixth-largest constellation, with 24 main stars. At its end is Achernar, one of the flattest stars known: about 50 per cent wider at its equator than at its poles. The tracks include Achernar, Cursa and Zaurak.
Notes from Charlie: The more experimental, considered side of my playing. Up at the top of the keyboard, lightly touched, the piano rings like a bell. Then the birds outside join in, a reminder that this was never a sealed-off studio.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music.
Creativity is infinite.
