Notes from Charlie: At 4pm on 23 June I sat down at the piano at HOTA on the Gold Coast and started improvising. I didn't stop until 6.30pm the next day. I lost all track of time, and this is the proof: live and improvised, with no edits, no drop-ins and no retakes. Just the raw performance.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music.
Creativity is infinite.
