A collection of solo piano improvisations.
Gemini, the twins Castor and Pollux. In myth they're twins; in the sky the two stars are very different from each other. Best seen from December to January. The tracks include Castor, Pollux, Alhena and Wasat, and Mu Geminorium.
Notes from Charlie: Made in the first few months after the piano came across from Perth to my studio in Clovelly. I love the ocean as much as the piano: all those molecules moving in unison, a vastness with no end. Improvisation is the subtle art of remembering something, then following it beyond expectation or judgement.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music. Creativity is infinite.
