A collection of solo piano improvisations.
Lyra is the lyre of Orpheus. Its brightest star, Vega, was the first star other than the Sun ever to be photographed. The tracks include Vega, Sulafat, Sheliak and Theta Lyrae.
Notes from Charlie: Theta Lyrae: what a name for a star, and what a rhythmic, endlessly harmonious piece. I played it once, saved it to a hard drive twenty years ago and forgot about it until now. Strong, bold, a carnival of harmony, and all that bass.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music. Creativity is infinite.
