A collection of solo piano improvisations.
Perseus, the hero of Greek myth, has 19 main stars. Its brightest, Mirfak, shines 5,000 times brighter than the Sun and is 42 times its diameter. The tracks include Mirfak, Algol and Gorgonea Tertia.
Notes from Charlie: Recorded in Clovelly, a street back from the rocky beach, on the big Bösendorfer 290. The studio ceiling was under two metres, so I could never open the lid all the way. With the door open, I could hear the ocean hitting the cliffs while I played.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music. Creativity is infinite.
Tracklist
1. Algol (2:40)
2. Ambience (3:36)
3. Epsilon (1:37)
4. Gorgonea Tertia (3:05)
5. Mirfak (3:50)
6. Zeta (3:39)
