A collection of solo piano improvisations.
Serpens, the serpent, is the only constellation split in two: the head, Serpens Caput, and the tail, Serpens Cauda, with Ophiuchus the serpent bearer holding it in between. This collection is the head. Its brightest star, Unukalhai, shines through even heavy city light.
Notes from Charlie: New recordings sit alongside older works I keep finding in the archive. Inventing every day reminds me that creativity is infinite, and the world can never have too much harmony.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music. Creativity is infinite.
