A collection of solo piano improvisations.
The tail of Serpens, the serpent, on the far side of Ophiuchus, who holds it. Serpens is the only constellation split in two. The tracks include Alya and Eta Serpentis Cauda.
Notes from Charlie: Recorded at the Royal Academy of Music in London on a lovely, very new Steinway D. Every instrument gives up its own secrets, and as an improviser I find something special in each one. Listen for the quiet between the notes.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music. Creativity is infinite.
