A collection of solo piano improvisations.
Telescopium, the telescope, is a small southern constellation with just two main stars. Its brightest, Alpha Telescopii, shines nearly 800 times brighter than the Sun. The tracks are named for its stars, from Alpha to Rho Telescopii.
Notes from Charlie: Alpha Telescopii is the loudest, proudest sound I've ever made on the big Bösendorfer: every note my hands can reach, with enough power to keep the lights on in a small town. The instrument as a whole soundscape.
Every piece in Constellation is an improvisation. Most came in the middle of scoring a film or working on something else, when I needed to stop and stretch out at the piano. Recorded across more than 25 years, they were released as 52 collections, one a week through 2023, each following the night sky. Every track is named for a star. 433 improvisations, around 30 hours of music. Creativity is infinite.
